BTS teamed up with Oreo on a limited-edition hotteok-flavored cookie with 13 secret embossments for ARMY. Here's why the flavor pick is more meaningful than it sounds.

BTS officially unveiled their limited-edition Oreo collab on May 26 after a week of teasing

BTS could have made a safe cookie. They chose hotteok instead — and that choice is the whole story.

After a week of teasing, BTS officially unveiled their Limited Edition Oreo & BTS Cookies on May 26. The flavor: hotteok, a brown sugar-filled Korean street food pancake that’s been a staple of Korean winters for generations. It’s humble, sticky, and deeply nostalgic — and it’s exactly what the group picked when Oreo handed them creative control over their first global snack collaboration.

“We ate them as kids, we eat them in the studio,” the members said of hotteok. That’s the logic: not a trend, not a marketing calculation, but a flavor that actually means something to them.

13 Embossments, 13 Years

The packaging goes further. BTS designed 13 secret cookie embossments — one for each year of their career — specifically for ARMY to collect. The number isn’t accidental. Thirteen years in, the group turned a cookie collaboration into a love letter to the fandom that’s been there the whole time.

The cultural dimension of the hotteok choice matters too. Korean street food has been having a global moment, and BTS choosing a flavor that doesn’t translate easily into Western snack culture — rather than reaching for something more universally familiar — is a flex in the best possible way. It says: this is ours, and we’re sharing it on our terms.

Get Them While You Can

The Limited Edition Oreo & BTS Cookies are available globally. They will disappear. ARMY already knows this.

BTS are back — and they’re taking everything with them.

The South Korean megagroup won Artist of the Year at the 2026 American Music Awards on Monday night, capping a triumphant return to the AMAs stage with a sweep of all three categories they were nominated in. They also took Song of the Summer for “Swim” and Best Male K-Pop Artist, opening the show with a pretaped performance from their Arirang World Tour at Allegiant Stadium before storming the stage live midway through the telecast.

“Everyone is belting out their songs during commercial breaks,” Yahoo’s Taryn Ryder reported from inside the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. “I don’t know the last time I’ve seen anything like this at an awards show.”

Cardi B Made History

The Bronx rapper swept hip-hop clean. Cardi B won Best Female Hip-Hop Artist, Best Hip-Hop Song for “ErrTime,” and Best Hip-Hop Album for Am I The Drama? — her long-awaited sophomore album that debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 after seven years of fans waiting. With three Best Hip-Hop Song wins across her career, she’s now the most decorated rapper in AMA hip-hop song history.

Kendrick Lamar took Best Male Hip-Hop Artist off the strength of GNX, and SZA won Best Female R&B Artist for the second consecutive year.

Sabrina Carpenter’s Pop Coronation

Sabrina Carpenter claimed Album of the Year for Man’s Best Friend, plus Best Female Pop Artist and Best Pop Album — her first AMA victories ever. The sweep demonstrated the fan connection she’s built over the past year, one that’s translated into genuine chart dominance.

Bruno Mars reasserted himself in R&B with three wins: Best Male R&B Artist, Best R&B Song, and Best R&B Album.

K-Pop’s Takeover Is Complete

It wasn’t just BTS. KATSEYE won New Artist of the Year plus Best Music Video for “Gnarly” and Breakthrough Pop Artist in their first year of eligibility. HUNTR/X featuring EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami took Song of the Year for “Golden” and Best Vocal Performance. The K-pop and K-pop-adjacent presence across the winners list was impossible to miss — a sign of just how far fan-voted shows have tilted toward global audiences.

Queen Latifah Ran the Night

Queen Latifah hosted the 52nd AMAs, returning 31 years after she first co-hosted alongside Tom Jones and Lorrie Morgan in 1995. She wore a floor-length fur coat on the red carpet in 94-degree Vegas heat and brought the room together between a delightfully strange mix of performances: nostalgia from Hootie & the Blowfish and New Kids on the Block with Keith Urban and Billy Idol, balanced against the now of Karol G, Maluma, Teddy Swims, Teyana Taylor, and Twenty One Pilots.

The AMAs partnered with 11 military and veterans’ services organizations this year, with Latifah and Darius Rucker sharing tributes to active-duty service members throughout the broadcast.

BTS closed the night where they started it — center stage, holding the biggest trophy of them all.

BTS will make a special appearance at the 52nd American Music Awards on May 25, 2026 — their first awards show in four years.

The group is nominated for Artist of the Year, Song of the Summer, and Best Male K-Pop Artist.

Their return follows the release of their No. 1 album Arirang and a record-breaking world tour launch.

The show airs live on CBS and Paramount+ from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, hosted by Queen Latifah.

BTS originally made their U.S. TV debut at the 2017 AMAs — the first Korean group ever to perform on the show.

BTS is coming back to the American Music Awards, and ARMY is not ready. CBS and Dick Clark Productions announced that the supergroup will make a special appearance at the 52nd annual AMAs on Memorial Day, Monday, May 25 — marking the first time the seven-member act has stepped onto an awards show stage in four years.

It’s a full-circle moment. BTS made their U.S. television performance debut at the very same show back in 2017, performing “DNA” and becoming the first Korean group ever to take the AMAs stage. They returned in 2021 and made history again, taking home the coveted Artist of the Year trophy — the first group to win that prize since One Direction in 2014-15, and the act that snapped Taylor Swift’s three-year run at the top. This year, both are back in the category.

In total, BTS has won 11 AMAs, putting them second only to Alabama — who hold a staggering 23 trophies — for the most wins by a group in the show’s history. They’ll have a chance to add to that tally with three nominations this time around: Artist of the Year, Song of the Summer for “Swim,” and Best Male K-Pop Artist. Fan voting is open now.

A Return Fueled by the Biggest Comeback in Years

The appearance isn’t just a one-off — it comes at the peak of what might be the most significant chapter of BTS’s career yet. All seven members completed their mandatory military service in South Korea before reuniting to release Arirang, their sixth studio album and their first LP in nearly four years. The record debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and held the top spot for three weeks — the first BTS album to do so — while racking up 641,000 total copies sold in its first week, the most by any group since Billboard began tracking streaming numbers in 2014. That includes 532,000 in pure album sales alone.

“Swim,” the album’s lead single, became their seventh No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and spent four weeks at the top of the Billboard Global 200. The group is currently in the middle of their extensive Arirang world tour, and this summer they’re also set to co-headline the first-ever halftime show at the 2026 FIFA World Cup final alongside Shakira and Madonna in July.

Safe to say, the timing of this AMAs appearance couldn’t be more loaded.

What Else to Expect on May 25

Queen Latifah — returning to host the AMAs for the first time in 30 years — will helm the night from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The show airs live coast-to-coast starting at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT on CBS and Paramount+.

Taylor Swift leads all nominees with eight nods, including Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, and Song of the Year. Sabrina Carpenter, Morgan Wallen, Olivia Dean, and Sombr each follow with seven nominations.

The performance lineup is packed: Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Billy Idol, International Artist Award of Excellence recipient Karol G, Hootie & the Blowfish, Katseye, Keith Urban, Maluma, The Pussycat Dolls with Busta Rhymes, Riley Green, Sombr, Teddy Swims, Teyana Taylor, Twenty One Pilots, and more. Darius Rucker will also be honored with the Veterans Voice Award, as the show spotlights military and veterans service organizations throughout the night.

BTS’s specific role — whether they’re performing, presenting, or something else entirely — hasn’t been revealed yet. But given everything they’ve built toward this moment, whatever they’ve got planned, it’s going to be worth the wait.

BTS is performing three sold-out nights at Stanford Stadium — their first Bay Area shows since 2018

Fans began lining up Thursday night for merchandise, with up to 3,000 people wrapping around the track three times by Friday morning

The shows are part of the Arirang World Tour, the group’s first world tour after completing mandatory Korean military service

An estimated 150,000 fans total are expected across the three nights at the 50,000-seat venue

Special K-pop-themed Caltrain rides, extra VTA buses, and SFO welcome signs are all part of the Bay Area’s full BTS rollout

The BTS Army has arrived — and they are not playing around. Thousands of fans descended on Stanford University’s campus starting Thursday evening, more than 24 hours before the K-pop supergroup’s first of three sold-out shows, turning the grounds around Stanford Stadium into something that looked less like a college campus and more like the epicenter of the biggest pop event on the planet.

By Friday morning, the line to purchase merchandise had wrapped around the athletic track three times — with as many as 3,000 fans queued up, some of whom had been camping overnight just to be first through the merch tent doors. Fan Miguel didn’t blink at the price tag once he got inside. “For merchandise, I just spent $1,200. Yeah,” he said. “It’s because I’m getting a few for my friends and family members.”

The three-night run — Saturday, Sunday, and Tuesday — marks BTS’s only Northern California stop on the Arirang World Tour, and their first Bay Area appearance since a 2018 show at what was then Oracle Arena in Oakland. Every night is sold out at the 50,000-seat stadium, meaning roughly 150,000 fans will pass through those gates before the run is done. For context: a sold-out Coldplay show at the same venue drew about 50,000 people per night. BTS isn’t just matching that — they’re expected to exceed it.

The Return Everyone’s Been Waiting For

This tour has been a long time coming. All seven members of BTS began their mandatory South Korean military service in 2022 and 2023, putting the group on hiatus while some members also pursued solo projects. Their last U.S. performances were a string of Las Vegas shows in 2022. Now they’re back — and the demand has been staggering.

The Arirang album, released March 20, sold 3.98 million copies on its first day alone. The music video for the title track “SWIM” surpassed 40 million views online within 24 hours of dropping. BTS now has more followers on Instagram, TikTok, and X than any other musical group on earth, and a widely cited report found the group contributes $4.5 billion annually to South Korea’s GDP. They’ve also surpassed 40 billion Spotify streams. These aren’t boy band numbers. These are cultural phenomenon numbers.

Fan Claire, who lives just ten minutes from the stadium, put it simply: “Besides their music, I think they’re very comforting for everyone, especially during COVID and hard times. They’re very, like, interacting with their fans.” Another attendee, Kim, described the pull of a BTS concert even more directly: “It just brings us together in a hopeful, meaningful and inspiring way.”

That emotional connection is exactly what fan Rosa was talking about when she explained what BTS’s music means to her personally. “They just want everyone to just love themselves and to be happy, and in their music, just talks all about that,” she said. “They’re very vulnerable about their lyrics and how they just talk about themselves and what they’re going through.”

What to Expect at the Shows

The concerts feature a 360-degree stage setup, fireworks, and dedicated merchandise tents — a full-scale production that matches the scope of the tour itself. Gates open at 4:30 p.m. each night, with shows starting around 7 p.m. and wrapping up around 10 p.m.

If you’re still trying to get in, resale tickets have been available starting as low as $157 — though that won’t last long given the demand. For fans who can’t score a ticket at all, a BTS-themed pop-up event at Max’s Cakes in Hayward is offering themed merchandise tied to the shows.

Clear bags only inside the stadium — 12″ x 6″ x 12″ maximum, or a small clutch up to 4.5″ x 6.5″ x 2″. Light sticks are permitted. Large bags, backpacks, professional cameras, drones, alcohol, and noisemakers are not. And yes, tailgating is allowed in designated parking lots with a pre-purchased pass — just keep the space directly behind your vehicle clear of walking paths.

Getting There (Because Traffic Is Going to Be a Lot)

The Bay Area is taking this seriously on an infrastructure level. The Santa Clara Valley Transit Authority has deployed extra buses — several of them wrapped in BTS imagery — with routes rerouted up to three hours before the 5:30 p.m. concert time and shuttle service available directly to the stadium entrance. Streets around campus will be closed ahead of each show.

For those taking public transit, the recommended route is BART to Millbrae, then a transfer to a southbound Caltrain to the Palo Alto Transit Center, followed by about a 20-minute walk to the stadium. Caltrain is running special K-pop-themed trains for the final Tuesday show, complete with music, decorations, and prizes — plus extra rides after the concert to help fans get home. Ride-share users should plan for roughly a 20-minute walk from drop-off.

San Francisco International Airport already has welcome signs up for arriving fans. The economic ripple effect is expected to be massive — hotel stays, restaurant spending, and transportation costs are projected to generate millions in state and local tax revenues over the three-night run.

The Arirang World Tour continues after the Bay Area with a four-night stand at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, where a full citywide takeover is already being planned — BTS-themed events at Fontainebleau, an immersive art installation at Arte Museum, a free fan event at Spring Valley Library, and pop-ups from ARIH, the new food-and-beverage brand created with the band.

But first: Stanford. Three nights, 150,000 fans, and a group returning to the stage after years away. The line around the track on Friday said everything about how much this moment means to the people who’ve been waiting for it.

Drake name-drops BTS on “Make Them Cry” from his new Iceman album, rapping that he’s “feeling like BTS” because of how long it took to be discovered

J-Hope and V posted a candid video of their stunned reaction to the lyric on Instagram Stories

Drake dropped three full albums on May 15 — Iceman, Habibti, and Maid of Honour — totaling 43 songs

Fans are split on whether the lyric is a compliment or a diss, sending social media into a full debate

BTS is currently on their ARIRANG World Tour following their chart-topping March album

You know you’ve made it when Drake puts your name in a verse. And when he does, apparently even the people being mentioned can’t quite believe it.

On Friday (May 15), Drake dropped not one but three surprise albums — Iceman, Habibti, and Maid of Honour — a 43-song release that reportedly crashed Spotify as fans scrambled to tune in. Buried inside Iceman was a moment that had a completely different corner of the internet losing its mind: a BTS shoutout. On the track “Make Them Cry,” Drizzy raps, “I’m feeling like BTS, ’cause it took the whole career for me to be so discovered.”

BTS members J-Hope and V were listening — and their reaction said everything.

In an Instagram Stories clip posted by V on Friday, the two K-pop stars are hanging out together, dancing freely while the track plays in the background. The moment Drake spits that line, they both freeze. Dead stop. They turn to the camera simultaneously, faces blank with disbelief, then slowly look at each other like they need confirmation that they just heard what they think they heard. V didn’t bother with a caption — just tagged Drake’s account and let the video do the talking.

Fans Can’t Agree on What Drake Actually Meant

While J-Hope and V’s reaction was priceless and pure, the internet had a much messier response. Pop Base posted the lyric on X, and the replies immediately split into two camps: those who read it as a compliment, and those who genuinely had no idea what Drake was saying.

@abcdvee asked, “What the f*ck does that even mean? Like what do the lyrics mean? What the f*ck is drake writing??” @Livloxy echoed that confusion: “I can’t tell if he’s saying something good or bad about BTS.” And one ARMY member put it plainly: “Before I get my claws out is this a diss or nah?”

Others had no doubt. @alertarcade wrote, “Speak on it!! They fought their way to the top for YEARS.” @epipeny added, “exactly, everybody knows BTS’ rags to riches journey and actual, organic success.” The reading most fans landed on: Drake is comparing his own long road to recognition with BTS’s 13-year grind from underground K-pop act to the biggest band on the planet — a journey that, by most accounts, is one of the more remarkable stories in modern music history.

Drake and BTS Have Been in Each Other’s Orbit Before

This isn’t the first time the two worlds have collided. Back in 2018, Drake included footage of J-Hope doing his wildly viral “In My Feelings” Shiggy challenge in the song’s official music video — a moment that connected the two acts long before any formal collaboration ever happened. They’ve never recorded together, but there’s clearly mutual awareness there.

As for BTS, they’re hardly hurting for attention right now. Their March album ARIRANG spent three weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, and lead single “SWIM” debuted at the top of the Hot 100. The Bangtan Boys are currently deep into a stadium world tour — they just wrapped three nights at Estadio GNP Seguros in Mexico City.

Drake, meanwhile, is rolling out Iceman alongside its two companion albums, a project featuring guest appearances from Future, 21 Savage, Central Cee, PartyNextDoor, Popcaan, and more. Less than two years after his very public feud with Kendrick Lamar, he’s clearly back in full swing — 43 songs in a single day, and one of them already has a different fandom talking just as loudly as his own.

J-Hope and V’s stunned, wordless look at each other might be the most relatable response to all of it.

Madonna, Shakira, and BTS will headline the first-ever halftime show at a FIFA World Cup final on July 19 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

The show is curated by Coldplay’s Chris Martin and produced by Global Citizen, with a cheeky Sesame Street and Muppets announcement video.

The performance is expected to last approximately 11 minutes — a tight window for three stadium-level acts.

All proceeds benefit the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, which aims to raise $100 million for children’s education and access to soccer worldwide.

Shakira dropped her official 2026 World Cup anthem “Dai Dai” with Burna Boy the same day as the announcement.

Soccer’s biggest night just got the most ambitious soundtrack imaginable. FIFA confirmed on May 14 that the 2026 World Cup final will feature the first-ever halftime show in the tournament’s nearly 100-year history — and the lineup is Madonna, Shakira, and BTS. Three of the most globally recognized artists alive, sharing one stage, in what FIFA president Gianni Infantino called “a historic moment for the FIFA World Cup, befitting the biggest sporting event in the world.”

The show goes down July 19 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, curated by Coldplay frontman Chris Martin and produced by nonprofit Global Citizen. And the way they announced it? Only slightly unhinged in the best possible way — Martin recruited Elmo, Cookie Monster, Kermit, Miss Piggy, and Animal from Sesame Street and The Muppets to help break the news.

In the video, Elmo nominated Madonna, Cookie Monster pushed for BTS (because “Butter” is, obviously, both his favorite song and a cookie ingredient), and Animal — with characteristic chaos — demanded Shakira. Martin FaceTimed the seven BTS members — Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook — to confirm they’d be there. They’re in. The whole thing is as delightful as it sounds.

“It’s a chance to show how amazing all different kinds of humans are,” Martin said in the clip. “And monsters, aliens — it’s one big family, really.”

Three Artists, Three Reasons This Works

Madonna, 67, comes in with serious momentum. The best-selling female recording artist of all time is set to release her 15th studio album, Confessions II — the follow-up to 2005’s Grammy-winning Confessions on a Dance Floor — on July 3, just over two weeks before the final. She’s already had one of her most-talked-about moments in years after making a surprise appearance during Sabrina Carpenter’s Coachella headline set in April. Eagle-eyed fans also noticed that Madonna’s Instagram account and the FIFA World Cup account started following each other the night before the announcement — as far as soft leaks go, that one landed.

Shakira, 49, might have the deepest personal connection to the World Cup of anyone on this bill. The Colombian singer wrote and performed “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” for the 2010 tournament in South Africa, appeared at the 2006 and 2014 finals, and took the halftime stage at the Copa America 2024 final in Miami. She also recently performed a free concert at Copacabana Beach in Rio before a crowd of 2 million people. The woman does not do small. And on the same day as the halftime show announcement, Shakira released “Dai Dai,” her official 2026 World Cup anthem — an Italian phrase that loosely translates to “let’s go” — produced with Nigerian artist Burna Boy, teased in a video filmed at Brazil’s iconic Maracanã Stadium.

BTS completes the lineup as the group that needs no introduction but keeps earning one anyway. The seven-member South Korean group has sold more than 45 million albums worldwide, earned six No. 1 singles on the Billboard Hot 100 since 2020, and commands one of the most organized fan bases on the planet — ARMY, short for Adorable Representative M.C. for Youth. After a nearly four-year hiatus during which each member fulfilled South Korea’s mandatory military service, they returned in full force this year with their fifth studio album, ARIRANG, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in March. Their 85-date world tour is currently underway, with stops in Stanford and Las Vegas this month, and Chicago and Los Angeles later in the summer. Their history with Chris Martin goes back to 2021, when their Coldplay collaboration “My Universe” hit No. 3 in the UK.

The Cause Behind the Show

This isn’t just a spectacle for spectacle’s sake. The halftime show is directly tied to the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, a landmark initiative aiming to raise $100 million to expand access to quality education and soccer for children around the world. One dollar from every ticket sold to a 2026 World Cup match will go toward the fund. Global Citizen — the nonprofit that has worked alongside Chris Martin since 2015, when he joined as its international festival curator — is producing the full show.

This partnership between FIFA and Global Citizen has actually been in the works since 2024, when the organizations announced a four-year agreement at Global Citizen’s annual New York festival. Martin also curated the first-ever FIFA Club World Cup final halftime show last year, also at MetLife Stadium, where Doja Cat, Tems, and J. Balvin performed — and Coldplay surprised the crowd with “A Sky Full of Stars.” Don’t be shocked if Martin finds a way onto the July 19 stage as well.

The One Detail Everyone’s Debating

Here’s the logistical wrinkle: the show is expected to run approximately 11 minutes. Under the International Football Association Board’s official laws of the game, halftime breaks cannot exceed 15 minutes — and it’s still unclear whether that window will be extended to accommodate the performance the way the Super Bowl does its show.

That is a very tight runway for three artists of this caliber. For context, last year’s Club World Cup halftime at the same stadium ran well past 24 minutes. Fitting Madonna, Shakira, and all seven members of BTS into a precisely choreographed 11-minute window will be an operation unto itself — and one the whole world will be scrutinizing in real time.

FIFA has also announced plans to take over New York’s Times Square during the final weekend of the tournament, extending the celebration beyond the stadium. The World Cup itself — the largest in history, with 48 teams competing across the US, Canada, and Mexico — kicks off June 11 when Mexico takes on South Africa at Mexico City’s Estadio Azteca. Opening ceremony performances across the three host countries will feature Katy Perry, Future, Alanis Morissette, Maná, Tyla, Michael Bublé, Alessia Cara, LISA, J Balvin, and more.

But the night that matters most is July 19. And if you needed proof that the world is ready to treat the World Cup final like the Super Bowl, just look at who’s headlining the show.

Canaco estimates BTS’s Mexico City run will generate roughly $107.5 million in economic impact for the capital

BTS hasn’t even taken the stage yet, and Mexico City is already losing its mind. On Wednesday, an estimated 50,000 fans flooded the streets outside the National Palace after Jin and j-hope appeared on the balcony to wave to the crowd — fresh off a meeting with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum herself. It was the kind of scene usually reserved for heads of state. Which, in a way, is exactly what this week has become.

The South Korean superstars are in town for three stadium shows — May 7, 9, and 10 at the GNP Seguros Stadium — as part of their sweeping ARIRANG World Tour, which launched April 9 at the Goyang Stadium in Seoul. More than 135,000 tickets sold out in less than an hour when they went on sale, setting off a chain of events that escalated far beyond anything the music industry typically sees.

When Concert Demand Becomes Diplomacy

The ticket chaos was immediate and overwhelming. Ticketmaster Mexico reported that more than 2.1 million people flooded its platform looking for BTS information after the ARIRANG tour was announced — “one of the highest-traffic inquiries in recent years,” the company noted. To put that in perspective, Ticketmaster said if the sale had been physical, the line would have stretched from Mexico City to the U.S. border. Nearly 5,000 complaint emails landed with the Federal Consumer Protection Agency (Profeco), and Sheinbaum’s administration demanded transparency in ticket sales from both Ocesa and Ticketmaster Mexico.

But Sheinbaum didn’t stop there. In an extraordinary move, she sent a letter directly to South Korean President Lee Jae Myung requesting additional BTS concert dates for Mexico. “The concerts will be in May, and about a million young people want to buy tickets, but there are only 150,000 available,” she said at her January 26 morning press conference. Three weeks later, Seoul responded, confirming the request had been forwarded to HYBE, the company that manages BTS. “He was very receptive to the request we made,” Sheinbaum said in March.

Not everyone in the fandom was thrilled about the diplomatic detour. “Our request was always the same: clarity in the ticket sales,” Melissa Salinas, a 27-year-old radio host from Sonora and member of ARMY Mexico, told Billboard Español. “Asking for more concerts in Mexico sparked criticism of our community from outside.”

Sheinbaum wasn’t even the only government official to make BTS their business. Mexico’s Secretary of Economy Marcelo Ebrard used an official visit to South Korea in late 2025 to personally meet j-hope, sharing video of the encounter on his own TikTok as a declaration of Mexican love for the group.

Mexico’s ARMY Has Been Waiting a Long Time for This

BTS last visited Mexico in 2017. That’s nearly a decade — and the years since have included a pandemic, a hiatus, and all seven members completing South Korea’s mandatory military service, which kept the full group off the world stage for almost four years. Their return to the spotlight in March made this tour feel less like a concert announcement and more like a reunion.

Dancers were already bouncing to BTS tracks on Mexico City avenues days before the first show, pep rallies filling the streets with the kind of energy that’s hard to manufacture. And the passion isn’t limited to the youngest generation — parents have been cheering right alongside their kids.

The economic stakes are real too. Vicente Gutiérrez, president of Mexico City’s National Chamber of Commerce, Services and Tourism (Canaco CDMX), told Billboard Español that BTS’s three-night run is projected to generate approximately $107.5 million (1.861 billion pesos) for the capital, with nearly $88 million of that coming from ticket sales alone. “The visit of BTS is a major event for Mexico,” he said.

For Salinas and the millions of ARMYs who couldn’t get tickets, the balcony moment on Wednesday — Jin and j-hope, two of the seven members of RM, Jin, SUGA, j-hope, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook, waving down at a sea of 50,000 people — was at least something. A glimpse. A promise of what’s coming.

“They’re going to fall in love with Mexico,” Salinas said. “BTS plus the Mexican ARMY is a formula that never fails.”
