• Netflix dropped the first trailer for Little Brother, starring John Cena and Eric André as unlikely “brothers.”
• The comedy hits Netflix on June 26, 2026, directed by Matt Spicer (Ingrid Goes West).
• Cena plays a buttoned-up real estate agent whose world unravels when André’s character unexpectedly reappears.
• The supporting cast includes Michelle Monaghan, Chris Meloni, Ego Nwodim, and Sherry Cola.
• The film adds to Cena’s growing post-WWE acting slate alongside Peacemaker and Coyote vs. Acme.

John Cena and Eric André are about to become family — whether they like it or not. Netflix has released the first trailer for Little Brother, the upcoming comedy that pairs the two in one of the more inspired odd-couple matchups in recent memory, and it’s exactly as chaotic as you’d hope.

In the film, Cena plays Rudd, a successful and meticulously put-together real estate agent whose carefully ordered life gets blown apart when Marcus — his “little brother” from a childhood charity program, played by André — resurfaces after a car accident and lands squarely in Rudd’s home. “He’s not my actual brother,” Cena’s character laments in the trailer. “The timing on this couldn’t be worse.”

And then André’s Marcus, in classic Eric André fashion, turns to Michelle Monaghan’s character and offers some unsolicited marital advice: “Our man is hurting right now. You might want to think about eating that ass.”

Yeah. It’s that kind of movie.

What to Expect From the Comedy

The film is directed by Matt Spicer, whose 2017 debut Ingrid Goes West — the darkly funny parasocial thriller with Aubrey Plaza and Elizabeth Olsen — earned him serious indie credibility. Little Brother marks his return to feature directing after nearly a decade of TV work, including episodes of On Becoming a God in Central Florida and American Horror Stories. The script comes from Jarrad Paul and Andrew Mogel, the writers behind The D-Train, and producers include Ruben Fleischer (the Zombieland films) and David Bernad for Middle Child Pictures.

Beyond Cena and André, the cast is stacked: Michelle Monaghan, Chris Meloni, Ego Nwodim, Sherry Cola, Caleb Hearon, Ben Ahlers, Bryce Gheisar, and Pilot Bunch all round out the ensemble.

Cena, for his part, sounds like he had the time of his life on set. Asked during a recent interview with Extra how he managed to keep a straight face opposite André, he didn’t even try to pretend he had it under control. “They’re only going to show the seconds that I wasn’t laughing,” he said. “I honestly think we play off each other very well. He has an incredible sense of humor, and I’m a decent sounding board for that.”

On X, Cena shared the trailer with a message that felt genuinely warm: “Families come in all shapes, sizes, and even varying levels of ‘relation.’ I couldn’t be prouder to be part of this cast and crew family. They’ll make you laugh and cry, and @EricAndre will make you often do both. So excited for everyone to see #LittleBrother on @netflix June 26.”

A Big Moment in Cena’s Hollywood Transition

Little Brother lands at an interesting moment for Cena, who retired from in-ring competition at WWE’s Saturday Night’s Main Event in December 2025 and has been leaning fully into his acting career ever since. He recently reprised his role as Christopher Smith in Peacemaker Season 2, and he’s also set to appear in the long-awaited Coyote vs. Acme — where he plays the villainous boss of a law firm squaring off against Will Forte’s hapless attorney and his client, Wile E. Coyote himself.

André, meanwhile, is having his own moment. Fresh off a supporting role in Marvel’s Ironheart, he’s gearing up to play Don Sauvage in the live-action Street Fighter movie, due in October. Safe to say both stars are very much in demand right now.

Little Brother starts streaming on Netflix June 26, 2026.

• John Cena is set to make a “history-making” announcement at WWE Backlash 2026 in Tampa tonight
• The announcement was initially rumored to involve the launch of Club WWE, WWE’s new subscription service
• Backstage sources say people inside WWE are hoping for something far bigger than a Club WWE rollout
• Cena has been hyping the moment since April 23, calling it something that will “shock the very foundation of WWE”
• Backlash airs live on the ESPN App in the U.S. and Netflix internationally, with the first hour on ESPN2

John Cena has been teasing something massive — and tonight at WWE Backlash 2026 in Tampa, we finally find out what it is.

The 17-time WWE World Champion is scheduled to make what he’s called a “history-making” announcement at the Benchmark International Arena, and the speculation surrounding it has been building for weeks. Earlier today, Cena took to social media to keep the hype going, writing: “My time in @WWE has been filled with defining moments. We’re hours away from what will certainly be another. C U Tonight at #WWEBacklash!”

That’s the kind of language that gets wrestling fans talking — and it’s been doing exactly that all week.

Bigger Than Club WWE?

The working assumption heading into the weekend was that Cena’s appearance was tied to the launch of Club WWE, a new fan membership and subscription service WWE has been quietly building toward. Cena was expected to serve as the face of the project — which, honestly, makes perfect sense. Few people in WWE history carry his mainstream name recognition.

But according to WrestleVotes, people backstage at SmackDown on Friday were genuinely hoping for something much more significant. One source noted that if Club WWE is indeed the direction, the details have been kept extremely tight — very few people inside the company are actually in the loop on what’s coming.

That secrecy alone is telling. WWE isn’t exactly known for keeping things quiet when it’s just a subscription service announcement.

Cena himself has been stoking the fire since April 23, when he first described the moment as something that would “shock the very foundation of WWE” — not just fans, but rookies, champions, and top stars across the board. That’s a bold claim, even by WWE standards.

Where Cena Stands Right Now

For context: Cena officially retired from in-ring competition on December 13, going out in a loss to GUNTHER in what was an emotional send-off for one of the company’s all-time greats. He returned earlier this year to host both nights of WrestleMania 42 — his first appearance since hanging up his boots — and the crowd response made clear that the Cena era still means something to WWE’s fanbase.

Whatever tonight’s announcement turns out to be, it’s happening on a stacked show. Roman Reigns defends the WWE World Heavyweight Championship against Jacob Fatu, Trick Williams puts the United States Championship on the line against Sami Zayn, and Seth Rollins vs. Bron Breakker — a feud that ignited when Breakker returned at WrestleMania 42 and attacked Rollins mid-match — is reportedly penciled in to open the event.

Backlash kicks off at 6 p.m. ET, streaming live on the ESPN App in the U.S. and on Netflix for international viewers, with the first hour also simulcast on ESPN2.

“We’re hours away from what will certainly be another” defining moment, Cena says. After a career built on moments that nobody saw coming, that’s not a promise anyone in WWE is taking lightly tonight.

• John Cena is set to make a major announcement at WWE Backlash 2026 on May 9 in Tampa, Florida
• Backstage sources suggest the reveal may go beyond Club WWE, the fan-experience program most had expected
• Cena has teased the announcement as something that will “shock the very foundation of WWE”
• A cryptic “Stone Cold Special Announcement” Instagram post has fans speculating about a Steve Austin connection
• Theories range from a new behind-the-scenes role for Cena to a WrestleMania 44 location reveal

John Cena has been building toward something big at WWE Backlash 2026 — and now there’s reason to believe the reveal could be even bigger than anyone expected.

For days, the leading theory inside WWE circles was that Cena’s hyped appearance at Saturday’s premium live event in Tampa, Florida was tied to the launch of Club WWE, the company’s new fan membership program offering early ticket access, exclusive merch, rewards, and bonus content. Cena has long been the face of WWE, and the thinking was that he’d be the perfect person to front the rollout. Expectations for the program were reportedly running very high backstage, and his involvement was said to add real momentum to it.

But now? That story may have just gotten more complicated.

Something Bigger May Be Coming

According to WrestleVotes, there was internal chatter at SmackDown suggesting Cena’s announcement could go well beyond Club WWE. “Backstage at SmackDown last night, there was some internal hope that tonight’s ‘historic’ announcement from John Cena goes beyond anything Club WWE related,” the report noted. “That said, according to one source, if that’s the direction, it’s been kept very quiet behind the scenes.”

That’s a notable shift. When details are being kept this quiet even from people inside the building, it usually means WWE is protecting something it genuinely doesn’t want leaked.

Cena has been fueling the fire all week. Standing outside Benchmark International Arena in Tampa — a city he’s called home for much of his WWE career — he filmed a video that stopped short of giving anything away while somehow turning the volume up even higher.

“In just a few days, I have a major announcement inside this building that is going to shock the very foundation of WWE,” Cena said. “From its fans to its superstars, from champions down to its rookies.”

He followed that with a social media post that matched the energy: “I am SO excited to break some history-making news! I can’t promise it’ll be perfect but I can promise it will change the WWE experience for Superstars and fans!”

The Steve Austin Theory

Then came the Instagram post that really got people talking. Cena shared a familiar image — the hands of “Stone Cold” Steve Austin — alongside text reading “Stone Cold Special Announcement,” immediately setting off a wave of speculation about whether Austin himself might be involved in whatever’s coming Saturday night.

It’s worth pumping the brakes slightly here: Cena has used that same Austin image and similar “Stone Cold”-themed teases in past cryptic posts, so it may be more about stirring the pot than dropping a real hint. But in WWE, you’ve learned never to completely dismiss anything — and Cena knows exactly what he’s doing when he hits post.

What Else Could It Be?

The speculation has been running wide open. WrestleZone laid out several possibilities, including a new behind-the-scenes role for Cena within WWE, the WrestleMania 44 location announcement, or some kind of broader company expansion. The WrestleMania location angle has since been largely shot down — reports suggest Nashville is the frontrunner for 2028, and next year’s event is already confirmed for Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, marking the first WrestleMania outside North America since Toronto hosted WrestleMania X8 in 2002.

A new corporate or creative role for Cena, on the other hand, isn’t hard to imagine. He’s been deeply embedded back into WWE since his retirement from in-ring competition, hosting WrestleMania 42 just four months after his last match and appearing in multiple segments across both nights — alongside Bianca Belair on Night 1 and Danhausen, The Miz, and Kit Wilson on Night 2. He’s clearly not stepping away from the company. The question is what his next chapter looks like.

Cena himself summed it up the only way he knows how: “See it live on ESPN in the States and Netflix around the world. Don’t miss Backlash. I’m so excited and I’ll see you there.”

Whatever it is, WWE has done exactly what it wanted — everyone is talking. And Cena, as always, is right at the center of it.
