Hailee Steinfeld posted the first photos of her and Josh Allen’s baby girl on Instagram on May 11, one day after Mother’s Day.

The carousel included a close-up of the newborn’s hand wrapped around Steinfeld’s finger and a shot of her in strawberry foot pajamas.

Allen called Steinfeld “an absolute rockstar of a wife” at an April press conference, and admitted he’s getting zero sleep — but loves every minute.

Hawkeye co-star Jeremy Renner showed up in the comments to wish Steinfeld a happy first Mother’s Day.

The couple, who married in May 2025, welcomed their daughter in April 2026 but have not yet shared her name publicly.

Hailee Steinfeld’s first Mother’s Day came with all the feelings — and now, finally, the photos to match.

On Monday, May 11, the Sinners actress posted an Instagram carousel from her very first Mother’s Day celebration, giving fans their first-ever look at the baby girl she and husband Josh Allen welcomed in April. “A day late but simply obsessed with this 💗,” Steinfeld, 29, wrote in the caption.

The post was everything you’d want. One photo showed the newborn’s tiny hand wrapped around Steinfeld’s finger as she lay on a white blanket, a peek of yellow sweater visible in frame. Another captured the baby’s little legs and feet in a white-and-black polka dot onesie with strawberries on the feet. The rest of the carousel filled in the holiday picture: handwritten Mother’s Day cards, a pancake brunch spread complete with fresh flowers, and a white-frosted cake that read “Happy Mother’s Day.” Fans quickly noticed the brunch spread appeared to be a full-on Wegmans haul, which, honestly, tracks.

Jeremy Renner — Steinfeld’s co-star from Hawkeye — didn’t miss the moment. He dropped into the comments to write, “Happy New Mothers Day !!! I am so very happy for you.”

A Family of Three, One Month In

Steinfeld first announced the birth through her Beau Society newsletter on April 2. “Our baby girl has arrived!!” she wrote. “We’re feeling incredibly grateful and blessed and savoring these early moments. Thank you so much for the love and well wishes.” The following day, she added: “To say we are unbelievably happy and in love with this baby girl would be an understatement. I’m soaking in the newborn bliss.”

The couple has not yet publicly shared their daughter’s name, though back in January, Steinfeld posted a photo of a knit sweater embroidered with “Baby Beau” — a sweet nod to her Beau Society community that had fans speculating ever since.

Allen, the Buffalo Bills quarterback and reigning NFL MVP, didn’t slow down much after becoming a dad — he cut his paternity leave short to return to Buffalo for voluntary workouts on April 7. But at a press conference on April 20, he made clear exactly where his head is at.

“It definitely changes the mindset a little bit,” Allen told reporters. “I’m very excited. I do think this is going to be the best version of myself in all aspects — my professional career and my personal life. It’s such a blessing.”

He also made sure to give his wife her flowers. “I’ve got an absolute rockstar of a wife that’s doing so many things right now and allowing me to be here right now and be with my teammates. Special times.”

When someone asked if he’d been getting any sleep with a newborn at home, Allen laughed. “No. But I wouldn’t want it any other way. It’s very rewarding.”

The Road Here

It’s been a lot of life packed into two years for these two. Steinfeld and Allen first started dating in May 2023, got engaged on November 22, 2024, and married on May 31, 2025 in a stunning ceremony at San Ysidro Ranch in Santa Barbara, California. At the reception, they walked off the aisle to “Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I’m Yours)” — and then it thundered. No rain, just lightning. Steinfeld called it magical, and honestly, hard to argue.

Youth National Poet Laureate Amanda Gorman wrote and read a poem at the ceremony. Steinfeld finally shared the words in her May 8 newsletter: “These two are the terrific proof that only when all of ourselves do we give, have we ever truly loved. And only when we have ever truly loved, have we ever truly lived.”

They announced the pregnancy in December 2025, with Allen kissing Steinfeld’s bare belly in an Instagram video while the two held hands next to a miniature snowman. In the months that followed, Steinfeld wrote openly in her newsletter about the emotional weight of becoming a mother for the first time.

“The most profound and grounding part of getting ready for this baby has been the introspective side of it,” she shared in February. “Sometimes I find myself asking big, lofty questions — ‘What am I going to be like as a mom?’ — or having vivid daydreams of what our life is about to look like when the three of us are cuddled up in the nursery together.”

She and Allen were, she wrote, “getting ready to meet someone we already love so much.” And then: “I’ve racked my brain for words to describe that feeling, and I don’t have them yet. Maybe that’s the point.”

Now they have the words. And the strawberry pajamas. And the tiny hand wrapped around a finger on a white blanket.

Simply obsessed with this, indeed.

Brady and Bündchen divorced in 2022 after 13 years of marriage; he shares son Jack with Moynahan

Brady has made a habit of honoring both women publicly on Mother’s Day, calling them “incredible moms” last year

The posts come as Brady, retired since 2023, has increasingly emphasized family as his focus post-NFL

Tom Brady kept his Mother’s Day tradition alive on Sunday — and fans are here for it. The retired seven-time Super Bowl champion took to his Instagram Stories to honor the mothers in his life, including both of his exes, Gisele Bündchen and Bridget Moynahan, in a gesture that’s become one of the more quietly touching things he does each year.

Brady opened with a tribute to his mom, Galynn, sharing a photo of her cradling a sleeping Vivian — his 13-year-old daughter with Bündchen — on the couch. “Happy Mother’s Day to the best mom in the world,” he wrote. “This picture perfectly sums up who you are Mom.”

Then came the posts that caught everyone’s attention. First, a throwback image of Bündchen, 45, kissing her stepson Jack, 18, while Moynahan, 55, stands smiling beside them. “Happy Mother’s Day,” Brady wrote, with three red heart emojis. In a second photo, Bündchen is seen relaxed in bed, cuddled up with all three of Brady’s kids — Jack, and her and Brady’s two children, Benjamin, 16, and Vivian. “Happy Mother’s Day to all the amazing mothers in this world,” he added.

A Blended Family That Works

Brady and Moynahan dated from 2004 to 2006. By the time she discovered she was pregnant with Jack, the relationship had already ended — and Brady had begun dating Bündchen. Jack arrived in 2007, and Brady and Bündchen married in 2009, welcoming Benjamin and Vivian before their divorce was finalized in 2022.

What could easily have been a complicated dynamic has, at least publicly, been something different. Brady, Bündchen, and Moynahan have all spoken over the years about keeping things positive for the sake of the kids — and these annual Mother’s Day posts feel like the most visible proof of that.

Last year, Brady called both women “incredible moms” he is “lucky” to know, and praised them as “kind, caring, compassionate and POWERFUL moms,” adding, “None of this would be possible without your love.” This year’s posts carry the same warmth, even if the words are simpler.

Bündchen, for her part, has spoken candidly about the realities of co-parenting. She told Harper’s Bazaar that she and Brady have “different ways” of raising their kids, which sometimes leads to “pushback” from the teenagers. It’s a refreshingly honest note amid what could otherwise look like a perfectly curated blended-family image.

Bündchen has since moved on and married her former Jiu-Jitsu instructor Joaquim Valente, with whom she welcomed a baby boy in early 2025. She addressed speculation that their relationship began before her divorce from Brady in a 2024 interview with The New York Times. “This is something that happens to a lot of women who get blamed when they have the courage to leave an unhealthy relationship and are labeled as being unfaithful,” she said. “They have to deal with their communities. They have to deal with their family. Of course, for me, it just happens to be a little bit amplified.”

Brady on Family, Post-Football

Since retiring from the NFL in February 2023, Brady has been open about the emotional weight of his final season. “I was going through a personal family issue,” he said of the 2022-2023 season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. “It was a challenge, and it just took a lot out of me in terms of my ability to play.”

That chapter behind him, Brady has leaned into fatherhood in a way he’s described as intentional. Back in August, inspired by Jack turning 18, he wrote in his newsletter about what the milestone made him reflect on. “When people hit milestone anniversaries and birthdays, like Jack just did, it’s natural to take a step back and reflect on how far they’ve come,” he wrote. “Baked into those moments of reflection is a really important question that I think a lot of people sometimes forget to ask: Who helped them along the way?”

He went on: “Nobody is perfect, everyone has room to grow and improve — this is especially true as parents — but seeing Jack with his friends felt like, hey, we got this one right. My goal now, in this phase of life, is to be equally good company to Jack and Benny and Vivian.”

For a man who spent 23 seasons being defined by championships and records, it’s a quieter kind of legacy he seems to be building now — one post, one holiday, one family photo at a time.

Ryan Reynolds posted a glowing Mother’s Day tribute to Blake Lively on Instagram Stories, set to Temper Trap’s “Sweet Disposition”

The tribute came one week after Lively settled her lawsuit against It Ends With Us director Justin Baldoni on May 4

Reynolds called Lively “fearless” and “the absolute love of my life” in text over photos of the couple

Lively also shared her own tribute to her mother, Elaine Lively, in a separate heartfelt post

Reynolds had previously told Today he had “never been more proud” of his wife during the lead-up to trial

Ryan Reynolds is not shy about letting the world know how he feels about Blake Lively — and this Mother’s Day, he made sure everyone heard it.

The Deadpool & Wolverine star, 49, took to his Instagram Stories on Sunday, May 10, to pour out a tribute to his wife of nearly 13 years. Over two photos of the couple together, set to the soaring notes of Temper Trap’s “Sweet Disposition,” Reynolds wrote: “I appreciate this mother beyond measure. She is kind. She is fearless. She’s the absolute love of my life — and to our four little kids, she’s the life of their love.”

That last line alone. Reynolds and Lively share daughters James, 11, Inez, 9, and Betty, 6, and son Olin, 2.

A Moment of Celebration After a Long Battle

The timing of Reynolds’ post wasn’t lost on anyone. It came just one week after Lively, 38, reached an out-of-court settlement with It Ends With Us co-star and director Justin Baldoni, 42, on May 4 — days before their trial was set to begin on May 18.

Lively had filed a lawsuit against Baldoni on December 31, 2024, alleging sexual harassment, a hostile work environment, and an orchestrated smear campaign against her. Baldoni denied her claims and filed a countersuit of his own, which was later dismissed. By the time settlement talks concluded, the case had been significantly narrowed — a federal judge had dismissed several of Lively’s claims, including the sexual harassment allegation, leaving primarily retaliation and contract-related claims on the table.

Rachael Bennett, a certified family law specialist and senior attorney at Sullivan Law & Associates, told Us Weekly that the last-minute timing was no accident. “The risk of putting the outcome in a jury’s hands becomes too dangerous for at least one, and here, probably both sides,” she explained. “The settlement came right after the judge dismissed the majority of Blake Lively’s claims… That changes the leverage dramatically once those bigger emotional claims are gone.”

Lively and Baldoni released a joint statement through their attorneys acknowledging the resolution. “The end product — the movie It Ends With Us — is a source of pride to all of us who worked to bring it to life,” the statement read. “We acknowledge the process presented challenges and recognize concerns raised by Ms. Lively deserved to be heard… It is our sincere hope that this brings closure and allows all involved to move forward constructively and in peace, including a respectful environment online.”

Reynolds Had Already Made His Feelings Clear

Reynolds’ Mother’s Day post wasn’t the first time he’d publicly stood in Lively’s corner. Back on April 19, he appeared on Today and told journalist Willie Geist simply: “I’ve never in my life been more proud of my wife.” He didn’t elaborate. He didn’t need to.

Sunday’s Instagram tribute felt like a quieter, more personal extension of that same energy — less about the lawsuit, more about the woman.

Blake’s Own Tribute Was Just as Beautiful

Reynolds’ post came shortly after Lively shared her own Mother’s Day tribute — this one to her mom, Elaine Lively. The Simple Favor star wrote over a photo of her mother: “Happy Mother’s Day to the woman who chooses joy, every day, no matter what. The strength and defiance in that is something I’ll always appreciate, especially the older I get.”

She continued: “She isn’t just beautiful, she creates beauty, with her hands, her stories, her playfulness, her creativity, her incredible ingenuity and her love. I’m so grateful, now and forever to have been shaped by your heart full of love, optimism and magic. You make the ordinary extraordinary. I love you. Thank you mama.”

Reynolds and Lively first met in 2010 on the set of Green Lantern and married on September 9, 2012. Whatever the past several months have looked like behind closed doors, Sunday felt like a family choosing to exhale — and celebrate the people holding them together.

On Sunday, May 10, the 30-year-old shared a carousel of three deeply personal photos on Instagram alongside a caption that said everything a daughter in grief could say.

“First Mother’s Day without you. I miss you more than words can say,” Dexter wrote. “Missing her voice, her hugs, her presence, and everything that made her home. I love you, Mom 🤍.”

The images tell the story of a lifetime together. One shows a young Dexter at the beach with a smiling Diane. Another captures the two of them on Dexter’s wedding day in 2021. The third is quieter — Diane leaning in to kiss her daughter on the cheek in a sun-dappled garden. Together they read like a scrapbook of a relationship that clearly meant everything.

Fans flooded the comments with warmth. “The entire world misses your beautiful, special Mom,” wrote one follower. Another offered, “Happy Mother’s Day, Dexter. I’m sure your mom is sitting in your heart and watching from above. Sending love.”

A Loss That Shook Hollywood

Diane Keaton — Oscar winner, Annie Hall icon, one of the most singular presences American cinema ever produced — died on October 11, 2025, from pneumonia. She was 79. In the immediate aftermath, a spokesperson confirmed her passing to Us Weekly and noted that Dexter and her brother Duke, 26, had asked for privacy as they grieved. Four days later, the family released a statement through People that confirmed the cause of death and offered a window into who Diane really was beyond the screen.

“The Keaton family are very grateful for the extraordinary messages of love and support they have received these past few days on behalf of their beloved Diane, who passed away from pneumonia on October 11,” the statement read. “She loved her animals and she was steadfast in her support of the unhoused community, so any donations in her memory to a local food bank or an animal shelter would be a wonderful and much appreciated tribute to her.”

Diane never married. She adopted Dexter and Duke as a single woman in her 50s and raised them on her own — a choice she once described to Ladies Home Journal with characteristic self-awareness. “Motherhood was not an urge I couldn’t resist,” she said. “It was more like a thought I’d been thinking for a very long time. So I plunged in.” She added, “I think I’m the only one in my generation, and maybe before, who has been a single woman all her life.”

Tattoos, Birthdays, and a Forever Reminder

Mother’s Day isn’t the first milestone Dexter has marked publicly since losing her mom. On January 5 — what would have been Diane’s 80th birthday — Dexter revealed she’d gotten a tattoo in her mother’s honor. The ink reads “La Di Da” in script, with a small heart beside it — a nod to Keaton’s most famous line from the 1977 Woody Allen film Annie Hall. “I miss you, mom 💔🕊️,” Dexter wrote at the time. “Thank you @winterstone for my forever reminder of my wonderful mom.”

Duke was tagged in the same post, showing off his own fresh tribute: “Weird Old World” — another reference to Annie Hall — etched permanently into his skin. The photo also included a shot of Diane and Dexter from behind, arms wrapped around each other, looking out at the water together.

They weren’t alone in marking the day that way. Diane’s close friend Sarah Paulson also got Keaton’s initials — “DK” — tattooed above her wrist for the occasion. The American Horror Story actress shared the image on Instagram with words that barely contained the size of the loss.

“You would have been 80 today,” Paulson, 51, wrote. “Too many deep feelings to put here … I was the luckiest person in the world to have traveled, laughed so hard we cried, watched a million and one movies, really cried, and eaten French fries with you. You. You. Wondrous, singular, YOU. I will miss you till the end of time.”

Dexter’s Mother’s Day post carries that same weight — the specific, irreplaceable ache of missing someone who was one of a kind. “Everything that made her home.” That’s the line that stays with you.

Sandra Bullock shared a rare throwback photo of her two kids, Louis and Laila, in a Mother’s Day Instagram post.

The carousel also included touching photos with her late mother Helga Meyer and her grandmother, whom she called “Omi.”

Lily Collins and Mindy Kaling were among the celebrities who responded to the post.

Bullock only joined Instagram last month to promote Practical Magic 2, making this her first Mother’s Day post on the platform.

The actress has spoken openly about scheduling the sequel around her kids’ school calendar so she wouldn’t miss time with them.

Sandra Bullock doesn’t share her kids with the world often — but for Mother’s Day, she made a rare and genuinely sweet exception.

The 61-year-old actress posted a carousel on Instagram on Sunday featuring a throwback photo of her son Louis, now 16, and daughter Laila, now 12, when they were little. In the shot, Louis is sitting in his mom’s lap wearing a top hat and a cape, fully committed to his magician look, while Sandra holds Laila close, the then-toddler dressed in a colorful tulle costume dress. Both kids’ faces are partially obscured — a deliberate choice that feels very on-brand for a mom who has always fiercely guarded their privacy.

“To all the mamas, No matter how you came to be, Happy Mother’s Day. We are all bound by this honor of a lifetime,” she wrote in the caption.

The post didn’t stop there. Sandra also included two deeply personal photos — one with her late grandmother, and another of herself and her sister Gesine Bullock-Prado cuddled up to their mom, Helga Mathilde Meyer. Helga died in April 2000 after battling cancer, and the image of the three of them together is quietly heartbreaking.

“Mom and Omi, thank you for teaching me. We miss you ❤️ Sorry I was such a brat,” she added.

The Celebrity Reactions Were Everything

The comments section delivered. Lily Collins, who starred opposite Bullock in The Blind Side, wrote: “And thank you for being my first on screen mama. Forever grateful for you.” Mindy Kaling kept it perfectly relatable: “Sandy why are you making me cry it’s 730.”

Fans piled on too — “Happy mama’s day, mama bullock” — and at least one person couldn’t get over the whole thing: “Still can’t get used to the fact that Sandie got insta lol!”

Which, fair. Bullock only launched her Instagram account last month as she stepped back into the spotlight to promote Practical Magic 2, the long-awaited sequel to the beloved 1998 film. This Mother’s Day post is only her second major moment on the platform, and it’s already one of her best.

Her Kids Have Always Come First

Sandra adopted Louis in 2010 when he was three years old, and then quietly adopted Laila from the Louisiana foster care system in 2015. When she confirmed the adoption, she was characteristically open about what it meant to her. “I knew she was scared, and all I wanted was for her to know Louis and I weren’t going anywhere,” she told People at the time. “My family is blended and diverse, nutty, and loving and understanding. That’s a family.”

She’s kept both kids almost entirely out of the public eye since. The family was spotted together in Los Angeles in October 2024 — a casual, relaxed moment outside their car, with a now-teenage Louis visibly towering over his mom — but sightings like that are genuinely rare.

After years of stepping back from Hollywood to be present with her kids, and then navigating the grief of losing her longtime partner Bryan Randall, who died of ALS in 2023, Bullock is returning to work on her own terms. Speaking recently at the CNBC Changemakers Summit, she was direct about how that looked in practice while filming Practical Magic 2 over the summer.

“I made this film at this time because I knew my kids were out of school. I’m not going to sacrifice my children’s — my time — with my kids,” she said. “They’d be happy if I was gone. I would not. It’s true.”

She also pushed back on the idea that working moms have to choose. “I do not do my best work if my children are struggling or if they need something and I can’t facilitate it. I’m raising my children, not anybody else. But I have the luxury of doing that in this business. So many people don’t. And I understand that grief and that angst when you are at work, going, ‘I’m not where I need to be right now. I’m here being performative and doing my job.’ But guess what? Women can do it. We can do 15 things at one time and get it done.”

Practical Magic 2 hits theaters this September — and if her Mother’s Day post is any indication, Sandra Bullock is back, fully present, and not missing a thing.

Kevin McEnroe, 39, published an open letter to his mother Tatum O’Neal ahead of Mother’s Day 2025

The essay, titled “Dear Tatum,” details O’Neal’s decades of addiction, a near-fatal 2020 stroke caused by an overdose, and a relapse in November 2024

Kevin — who has battled alcoholism himself — writes that he now calls her “Mama” and is proud she’s finally “really trying”

O’Neal shares Kevin, Sean, and Emily with ex-husband John McEnroe, who gained primary custody during her addiction struggles

The letter ends with Kevin wishing his mother — now a grandmother — a Happy Mother’s Day

Kevin McEnroe has written the kind of letter most people only ever compose in their heads. Published at The Small Bow on Thursday, May 7, the essay — addressed to his mother, actress Tatum O’Neal — is a years-in-the-making reckoning with addiction, love, loss, and forgiveness. It is one of the most honest things you’ll read this Mother’s Day.

“I call you Tatum, sometimes, because you weren’t always a mom, although when you were you were at your best, and that’s why you’re still here, today,” Kevin, 39, wrote in the piece, which he shared via his website. “I call you Tatum because your name is Tatum but also because it was a reminder that maybe, sometimes, I needed more, but that doesn’t mean I’m going anywhere — I know me leaving has always made you scared.”

That distinction — between “Tatum” and “Mom” — runs through the entire essay like a thread. Kevin describes two separate identities in the woman he grew up with: the mother who loved him, and “Tatum,” the version of her that addiction claimed. “I called you Tatum, most of my life — and sometimes still do — because you liked to say we were friends,” he wrote. “I called you Tatum because you were happiest — or at least you smiled the most — when someone called you my sister. I call you Tatum because sometimes I miss my mom.”

One of His Earliest Memories Was Her Addiction

Kevin doesn’t soften the childhood he remembers. He writes that one of his earliest memories of O’Neal, 62, involved her sending him to buy cigarettes, him throwing away her drugs, and her offering him a “line” if he wanted one. He was a child.

“When I was little, you were my mom, until your boyfriend gave you heroin,” he wrote. “You were my mom when you were clean, between rehabs, but then sometimes you were Tatum, too. Tatum used to leave in the middle of the night and sometimes not come back before morning. Tatum didn’t have a choice.”

O’Neal shares Kevin with her ex-husband, tennis legend John McEnroe, 67, along with their daughter Emily, 34, and son Sean, 38. The former couple were married from 1984 to 1994, and John gained primary custody of all three kids during the years Tatum’s addiction was at its worst. Kevin’s brother Sean, he writes in the essay, had “already grieved” their mother’s loss long before her most recent health crisis.

That crisis came in 2020, when O’Neal suffered a near-fatal stroke that left her in a six-week coma. She later told PEOPLE the stroke was caused by an overdose. When she woke up, she couldn’t read, talk, or walk. Kevin writes that everyone hoped the brain damage might finally rid her of “Tatum” — but it didn’t. She started drinking again, he says, attributing it to her pain and her rheumatoid arthritis.

“I didn’t care,” he wrote — not with cruelty, but with the exhausted acceptance of someone who has made peace with things he cannot control. When she escaped from a memory care facility, he was “proud of her in a weird way,” because it meant she was “still alive.”

His Own Sobriety, and What It Cost Him

Kevin — a writer who publishes at his Substack, Serenity Side Down — is candid about his own battle with alcoholism and what it meant to navigate recovery while his mother was still using. When he was in treatment, he was told to distance himself from O’Neal. His therapists said his “low expectations” of her amounted to enabling. But Kevin understood something they didn’t: if he ignored her calls, she might die.

“I answer your calls, even though there are plenty,” he wrote. “I arrange your doctor’s appointments, even though you go just to be seen. I order your groceries, even though you’re addicted to granola. I love you even though sometimes you make it hard.”

Getting sober himself felt, paradoxically, like abandoning her. He believed sobriety meant they couldn’t be close anymore. But over time, he realized something else: “I said I wasn’t like you. Over time I realized we are exactly the same.”

“I’m so lucky that I’m like you, because I get it now,” he wrote — explaining that O’Neal used drugs because, like Kevin, she “didn’t have a choice.”

A Relapse, a Suicide Disclosure, and Then Something Changed

O’Neal suffered a relapse in November 2024. Before that, about a year and a half ago, she told Kevin she was suicidal — and drinking at the time. He considered traveling to her, but understood he couldn’t convince her to want to live. That had to come from her.

Since then, he writes, she has not consumed alcohol or drugs. And the change in her — the woman he talks to now — is something he’s still getting used to.

“I’m proud of you. I’ve never really seen you, at anything, really try. But you do today,” he wrote. “Sometimes I call you and you’re busy and you don’t have time for me. Somehow that feels less like Tatum and more like my mom.”

He also acknowledged what her sobriety has done for him personally: “I’ve realized that taking care of her might actually help me.”

Unconditional, Even When It Hurt

The essay’s most striking passage is Kevin’s meditation on unconditional love — what it means, whether it’s even real, and why he keeps showing up anyway.

“A wiser person than me once told me there’s no such thing as unconditional love. If you get punched in the face you might pull away — that’s a condition,” he wrote. “But you did that a lot, and you still can, but I’m not going anywhere. In fact I respect your fight. I’ll still help you, Tatum, because you’re my mom. I forgive you, and you forgive me, and we forgive others, because we have to.”

He told his mother she doesn’t need to prove her pain to him, and he doesn’t need to prove his love to her. “If you want, Mom, you can just believe me, and maybe if you do that you’ll believe in you, too.”

He closed by celebrating her “big” heart — and thanking her for giving him the same one. He said she taught him big love, big fear, big heartbreak, and how to wear “my heart outside my chest.”

The letter ends with Kevin wishing both his mother and “Tatum” a Happy Mother’s Day — and adding one more word: “Nana,” marking the fact that O’Neal has recently become a grandmother.

“I’m proud to be Tatum’s son,” he wrote.

Jennifer Hudson broke down crying live on The Jennifer Hudson Show when her 16-year-old son David surprised her on air.

David presented his mom with a homemade pound cake made from her late mother’s special recipe.

Hudson called out her producers for getting her again, saying “Y’all, this is my baby.”

The pound cake is a longstanding Hudson family tradition David has kept alive for birthdays and every major occasion.

Hudson shares David with ex-fiancé David Otunga Sr., from whom she separated in 2017.

Jennifer Hudson did not see it coming — and that’s exactly what made it so good.

On Thursday, May 7, the EGOT-winning host of The Jennifer Hudson Show was mid-taping when a producer told her a surprise was on the way. She’d been told her son David might stop by — but when he didn’t appear right away, she assumed it wasn’t happening. Then the curtain parted, and there he was: her 16-year-old, walking onto the stage carrying a homemade pound cake on a platter, surrounded by flowers.

Hudson was on her feet instantly. Jaw dropped. Arms open. Tears already falling.

“David!” she cried, rushing toward him as the studio audience erupted. A stagehand passed David a large bouquet to hand his mom, and the teenager delivered it with quiet, steady calm — the kind of composure that makes a mother cry harder.

“This is your mom’s special recipe, so I made it for Mother’s Day,” he told her. “I know it’s special to you. I love you.”

Hudson pulled him in for a hug and barely got words out. When she finally turned to her audience, she was a mess in the best possible way. “Y’all, this is my baby,” she told the crowd, laughing through the tears. She called out her producers — “They got me again” — before explaining just why this particular cake means so much.

The Cake That Carries a Whole Family’s History

The pound cake wasn’t just a dessert. It was Hudson’s late mother’s recipe — the one that showed up at every birthday, every holiday, every occasion that mattered in the Hudson household. A family signature. And for years now, David has been the one keeping that tradition alive.

“My mother always made this pound cake,” Hudson told her audience, voice catching. “And our family tradition — for Mother’s Day, birthdays, all special occasions — he always makes it for me. Thank you, baby!”

That he baked it himself, rather than ordered it or bought flowers and called it a day, is the detail that lands. At 16, David understood exactly what the gesture meant — not just as a Mother’s Day gift, but as an act of remembrance, a way of honoring a grandmother’s legacy through something he made with his own hands.

“Thank you, I love you,” David said simply.

It needed nothing else.

A Kid Who’s Growing Up Fast

Hudson shares David with her ex-fiancé David Otunga Sr., the former WWE superstar and attorney. The two met in 2007, got engaged in 2008, and welcomed David Jr. via emergency C-section on August 10, 2009. They separated in 2017 after nearly a decade together, and finalized their custody arrangement in 2019 following a legal battle that played out in the public eye.

Hudson has been protective of her son’s privacy over the years, but she’s also spoken warmly about who he’s becoming. In an interview with People last August, she described a kid who’s “into basketball and music” and has gotten so tall that strangers do double-takes when they’re out together. “People are like, ‘Who that man Jennifer with?’ And I’m like, ‘Y’all, that’s my son,'” she laughed.

She told Real Simple in 2023 that she treasures their small daily rituals — what she calls her “David walks,” morning strolls to Starbucks that help her reset. “My son has a busy schedule, and I love to be there for him, so I’m learning how to juggle this newness,” she said. “It used to be I’d hold your hand and take you to the park. Now it’s like, how do I mother you?”

Thursday’s moment on the show was a pretty good answer to that question. A teenager who shows up — in person, with a homemade cake, in front of a live studio audience — for his mom. That’s not something you teach. That’s just who he is.

For Hudson, who has spent her career channeling raw emotion into some of the most powerful performances in recent memory, this was something different entirely. A feeling she didn’t have to perform. Just a mom, undone by her kid and a pound cake.
