SEATTLE - Amazon has revealed that its Kindle 2 e-reader will be available internationally from 19 October.
Consumers in over 100 countries will now be able to purchase the product via the company's US website for $279, with shipping placing the total cost at around $317.
The Kindle was previously only available in the US but the coming Christmas season and growing market competition with Sony and Apple working on their own e-readers prompted the move.
Amazon announced the second price-cut to Kindle 2 in the US earlier this year, by reducing its price from $299 to $259 after initially retailing at $359.
The Kindle 2 uses AT&T global data network to allow users to download books, periodicals and newspapers on the move. The readers can store up to 1,500 books which are read on a six-inch screen.
