Karlaftis, who is Greek, honored his roots with a traditional Greek Orthodox ceremony that stretched across three days — a welcome reception, the ceremony itself, and a farewell cookout — with 220 guests in attendance.

“I think my favorite part was the ceremony because I got really emotional, more than I expected to,” Karlaftis told People. “I didn’t expect to cry as much as I did during the ceremony. I was borderline bawling when I saw Kaia and her dad walk down the aisle.”

He was equally moved by how his guests — from Greek family to NFL teammates to a certain global pop star — all managed to find their rhythm together. “The first night, I had 25 different worlds colliding,” he said. “We have such cool friends, and the people we invited were just the best.
