Jake Hall, the British reality star and entrepreneur best known for his time on The Only Way Is Essex, has died at the age of 35. Hall was found dead at a holiday villa in Santa Margalida, Majorca, with severe head injuries, according to The Sun. The Spanish Civil Guard confirmed to BBC News that it is investigating the incident, which “appears to be an accidental death,” and that authorities are awaiting the results of an autopsy.
Hall was reportedly on holiday with six others — four men and two women — when things took a devastating turn. According to sources close to the investigation, police are working with the theory that Hall, who had been celebrating through the night, shattered a glass door with his head after becoming agitated. Witnesses told investigators the group had been partying before returning to the villa, where the evening ended in tragedy. The six people present are being questioned by police, though no arrests have been made.
“We are focusing on the theory the victim died in a tragic accident after hitting his head against the glass door, but it is still too early to say definitely what happened,” a police source said.
A spokesperson for the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office confirmed: “We are supporting the family of a British man who has died in Spain and are in contact with the local authorities.”
A Life Beyond the Reality TV Cameras
Hall joined TOWIE in 2015 during the show’s 14th series, coming in as a friend of cast member Vas J Morgan. He stayed for three seasons, with much of his storyline centered on his on-and-off romance with co-star Chloe Lewis. After stepping back from the show, he threw himself into fashion and the arts — running menswear brands By Jake Hall and Prévu Studio, creating music with a group called Yours Collective, and, more recently, pursuing sculpture and painting. He had actually unveiled his first sculpture in Majorca just last month.
Before reality TV, Hall had been a professional footballer, playing for Boston United. He once reflected on the whiplash of sudden fame, telling This Morning: “Everyone knows your life within days of being on the show, but I like it — it’s been great.”
In the days before his death, Hall had been sharing glimpses of his time on the island. His final Instagram post, from Tuesday, showed him painting — and carried a note that feels all the more heartbreaking now.
“Life is bollocks sometimes but I’m gonna try remember the good things,” he wrote. “Looking through things — I’m just making art — in many forms.”
His Daughter River, and Missé Beqiri’s Statement
Hall is survived by his daughter, River, eight, whom he shared with Albanian model and TV personality Missé Beqiri, known to American audiences from Ladies of London and to UK viewers from The Real Housewives of Cheshire. The two had an on-and-off relationship for years, announcing their engagement in 2018 — the same year River was born — before their relationship ended acrimoniously, with Beqiri taking out a restraining order against Hall in 2019.
A statement from Missé’s team said she is “supporting and protecting their child as they come to terms with this devastating loss.”
Tributes Pour In
The Only Way Is Essex released a statement in the wake of the news: “Jake was a part of the TOWIE family for a number of years and we send our very deepest sympathies to his family and friends following today’s very sad news.”
Celebrity DJ Fat Tony was among the first to speak out, writing on Instagram: “Devastating news we Love you @jakehall. Such an awful loss to the world, you beautiful man.”
Blue singer Antony Costa added: “So sad. What a lovely bloke you were mate. RIP.”
Author Roxie Nafousi shared a more personal tribute: “Jake, you were such a sweet soul, I always loved our catch ups. I know things weren’t always easy for you but you never gave up and you really loved your little girl more than anything in the world. This is so devastating. Keep dancing up in heaven. Rest in peace.”
Hall’s death comes just months after another former TOWIE cast member, Jordan Wright, was found dead in a drainage ditch in Phuket, Thailand, in March. He was 33.
For now, the Spanish Civil Guard’s investigation continues as family and friends process the loss of someone who, just days ago, was painting in the Majorcan sun and trying to hold onto the good things.
