Dianna Russini and her husband, Kevin Goldschmidt, stepped outside their New Jersey home on Mother’s Day — and the cameras were waiting. The photos, exclusively obtained by Page Six, show the couple kissing and embracing warmly, with Russini carrying one of their two young sons on her hip. It’s the first time the former NFL insider has been publicly spotted since she resigned from The Athletic on April 14 — and the first time the pair has been seen together since the Mike Vrabel controversy turned their lives upside down.
Kevin, a Shake Shack executive, was visibly wearing his wedding band. The whole scene — kids, front stoop, Sunday afternoon — looked like a deliberate show of normalcy. And according to people who know them, that’s exactly what it is.
“People in the community have said they’ve been very resilient as a family,” a source told Page Six. “They haven’t been in hiding.”
The couple, who married in September 2020 and share sons Michael, 4, and Joey, 3, have reportedly continued showing up to family activities and community events throughout the weeks of tabloid coverage — choosing presence over retreat.
How the Scandal Unfolded
The story broke on April 7, when Page Six published photos of Russini and New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel at the Ambiente luxury resort in Arizona — holding hands, dancing, lounging poolside, and eating breakfast together on a patio. Both pushed back hard. Vrabel called it “a completely innocent interaction” and said the suggestion of anything more was “laughable.” Russini said the photos didn’t show the full picture — specifically, “the group of six people who were hanging out during the day.” Multiple eyewitnesses disputed that account to Page Six.
Within a week, Russini was out at The Athletic. In her resignation statement, she said she stood behind every story she’d ever published and accused commentators of engaging in “self-feeding speculation that is simply unmoored from the facts.” She framed her departure as a choice, not a consequence: “I refuse to lend it further oxygen or to let it define me or my career.”
Vrabel, meanwhile, announced he would miss Day 3 of the 2026 NFL Draft to seek counseling and focus on his family. He’s been married to his wife, Jen, since 1999. The Patriots released a statement expressing full support for his decision, and players rallied around him publicly. Cornerback Christian Gonzalez told reporters simply: “That’s my coach. That’s my guy, and I’m right behind Vrabes any time of day.”
The Photos Keep Coming
If either of them hoped the story would die down, the opposite happened. Additional photos and videos continued to surface across multiple outlets, painting a picture of a relationship that stretched back years.
Page Six published images of Russini and Vrabel at a dimly lit New York City bar in March 2020 — months before her wedding to Kevin — with an insider describing them as kissing and “all over each other.” Then came photos of the two on a private boat trip in Putnam County, Tennessee, in 2021, while Russini was visibly pregnant with her first child. A source told TMZ they were allegedly the only two people on the boat and were uneasy about being photographed. TMZ Sports also obtained photos of the pair hugging at a Super Bowl party in 2022 and at a casino in 2024.
And then there’s the resurfaced Barstool Sports clip. In a video from what appears to be a Zoom-based Family Feud segment, a host asks players to name something a man might do to get a woman in the mood. Russini answered without hesitation: “Kiss her” — then added, “I feel like this is good advice for you guys too.” Vrabel, joining via Zoom from a separate location, shot back with mock enthusiasm: “I’m paying very close attention. I’m so excited.” The clip, shared on X by @CollegeFBPortal, went viral over the weekend, adding another layer of uncomfortable irony to an already messy situation.
A second Barstool clip from 2020 also made the rounds, in which Russini responded to a Family Feud prompt about something you might close your eyes to do with: “When you have sex with your husband or wife.” Vrabel, also on that call, shook his head as the group laughed. Russini later said she hadn’t realized the prompt originally came from a kids’ version of the game.
What’s Happening Behind Closed Doors
The Mother’s Day photos tell one story. But reporting from the Daily Mail told another, with a source describing Goldschmidt as struggling under the weight of the public scrutiny long before the scandal broke. “Her husband has felt sidelined for a long time, and this controversy might be what finally pushes things to a breaking point,” the source said, while also noting that he “still cares about her” and would want to find a way through it if possible. “The emasculation has taken a toll though.”
It’s worth remembering that Russini herself joked — just months before any of this — that she and Kevin were practically strangers. In a February 2026 appearance on the “Stugotz and Company” podcast, she laughed that her hectic work schedule had left them completely disconnected. “He doesn’t even know who I am right now,” she said. “We’ve never been more disconnected in our lives. Our text messages look like two robots.” She even quipped they were “getting divorced at the end of the year.” At the time it was a funny bit about a busy journalist’s life. In retrospect, it landed differently.
Russini has made no public statements since her resignation. Kevin hasn’t spoken out at all. And for now, the couple appears to be doing what the source described — staying visible, staying together, and taking it one day at a time.
The kiss on the front stoop may be the clearest statement either of them is willing to make right now.
