Jason Biggs and Jenny Mollen are going their separate ways. The couple, who have been married for 18 years, have officially separated, a rep confirmed to PEOPLE on Thursday, May 14. But by all accounts, this is about as amicable as a split can get.
Biggs, 48, and Mollen, 46, spent his birthday together as a family just two days before the news broke. “They are very much connected,” a source close to the pair tells PEOPLE. “I have no doubt that they will remain on excellent terms.” Sources close to the couple also tell TMZ there is zero drama — and that the two are squarely focused on raising their sons, Sid, 12, and Lazlo, 8.
From a Parking Lot Elopement to 18 Years
Their story started on the set of My Best Friend’s Girl in 2007 — and it moved fast. Mollen has joked that despite her initial hesitation about working with Biggs, once she watched his audition tape, she couldn’t deny he was “funny” and “talented.” Less than a year after they met, the two were married in a FedEx Kinkos parking lot in Calabasas. “It works out,” Mollen quipped.
They made it official in a bigger way that summer — a second ceremony in Napa Valley, California, with about 40 guests. Two kids and nearly two decades later, they’ve been one of Hollywood’s more low-key, genuinely funny couples — never chasing the spotlight, but always a little refreshingly real about what marriage actually looks like.
Mollen, author of I Like You Just The Way I Am, has never been one to sugarcoat things. In 2016, she told PEOPLE that working together brought out a competitive streak rooted in something deeper. “When we work together, there’s just a lot of competition in our relationship not for the spotlight,” she said, “but it has to be about each of us because I feel like we both have a lot of childhood abandonment issues.” She called the dynamic “f–ked up” but tied it to both of them growing up with “narcissistic parents.”
They weathered real storms. In 2019, Biggs opened up about his sobriety journey — he got sober in 2017 — and credited Mollen for standing by him through it. At the time, he told Us Weekly their relationship was “better than it’s ever been” and that after welcoming their kids, they had found a new rhythm. “We know how to find time for each other now,” he said.
Still Very Much a Team
Even in recent years, the two were clearly still each other’s people. In 2024, they teamed up professionally for a reboot of Dinner and a Movie on TBS, hosting guests and watching films together in the half-hour format. Mollen also ran her own podcast, All the Fails with Jenny Mollen, from March 2024 to January 2025, with Biggs as a frequent guest.
On their 17th wedding anniversary in April 2025, Mollen posted a series of videos of Biggs goofing around and playing with their kids. “17 years of this. Happy Anniversary @biggsjason,” she wrote. And when he turned 47 last May, she shared a black-and-white photo of them holding each other close, captioning it with a nod to a surprise party gone wrong: “We were married and yet I still knew practically nothing about you. Like for example, the fact that you hate surprises. Luckily, we made it past that hurdle. Happy 47th, I promise I planned nothing.”
Her last public Instagram post featuring Biggs came in November 2025. “A totally approachable couple not trying to seduce you,” she wrote alongside it.
Biggs, best known for the American Pie franchise, has been keeping busy on the career front — he made his directorial debut last year with Untitled Home Invasion Romance and most recently appeared in the Prime Video comedy Operation Taco Gary’s, playing himself.
Whatever comes next, the people closest to them aren’t worried. “They are doing great,” the source says simply.
