Barbara Palvin and Dylan Sprouse chose the most cinematic setting possible to share their biggest news yet. The Victoria’s Secret model and her Suite Life of Zack and Cody alum husband debuted her baby bump on the red carpet at the 79th Cannes Film Festival on Thursday, May 14 — and yes, it was as stunning as you’d imagine.
Palvin, 32, wore a light blue dress with cap sleeves that flowed into a feathered skirt, one hand cradling her growing belly. Sprouse, 33, stood beside her in a tuxedo, arm wrapped around her waist. The two were spotted looking cozy together before posing on a staircase, and the photos say everything words can’t.
Shortly after the paparazzi shots started circulating, the couple made it official on Instagram. Their joint post opened with a photo of the two in their exact Cannes looks, followed by a sonogram image — edited so the baby appears to be throwing up a “rock on” hand gesture — and then a snap of Palvin and Sprouse doing the same sign right back. The caption? Just three rock hand emojis: “🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼.” Simple, playful, completely them.
The comments flooded in fast. Nina Dobrev, Stella Maxwell, and Leah Kateb were among the A-listers sending their love. According to TMZ, the baby is due sometime around August or September.
A Love Story That Started in Someone’s DMs
If you need a quick refresher on how these two got here: Dylan and Barbara first crossed paths at a Harper’s Bazaar party in August 2017. He was charmed. She followed him on Instagram. He slid into her DMs — and then heard absolutely nothing for six months.
“She followed me, so I was like, I guess I’ll give her something,” Sprouse told W Magazine in 2019. “I was like, ‘Hey, I don’t know if you’re in New York for very long, but we should hang out if you want to. Here’s my number.’ And she didn’t message me for six months.”
Palvin, for her part, was deliberate about it. “I knew I wasn’t in a good mind-set at the time,” she said, “and maybe deep inside I knew that it could be something more.” When she finally did reach out, Sprouse had already left for China to shoot a film. She flew out to meet him anyway — and that trip became their first date. He later told Vogue their first kiss came after she “horked down a third of my burrito,” which is honestly the most endearing detail in this entire story.
They made things official in June 2018, moved in together in Brooklyn by January 2019, and spent the next several years being quietly, consistently devoted to each other. Palvin explained to British Vogue in 2020 that she’d initially hesitated to respond to Dylan’s DM partly out of concern about the paparazzi attention a relationship with him might bring. “I was very scared,” she said. “I had this thought in the back, like, ‘Oh, but wait … are we going to get paparazzi’ed all the time?’”
Sprouse proposed in September 2022, though the couple kept it private for months. They finally confirmed the engagement in a June 2023 V Magazine cover shoot, posing in front of a giant wedding cake dressed as bride and groom — with Dylan’s twin brother Cole Sprouse conducting the interview. “We didn’t necessarily feel the need to be fully transparent with the public about that aspect of our engagement,” Dylan explained. “What we wanted to do with Stephen and the V team is make something that was kind of tongue-in-cheek about the nature of private versus public. We’re playing with the idea of perception.”
They married the following month, in July 2023, on the grounds of Palvin’s parents’ property in Hungary — a ceremony that was meant to be intimate but grew to 115 guests. “There are a lot of people we care about, and we wanted them all to be there,” Barbara said afterward.
The Health Journey That Makes This News Even More Meaningful
This pregnancy announcement carries extra weight given what Palvin has been through in the months leading up to it. Last year, she opened up on Instagram about years of painful, undiagnosed symptoms — fatigue, severe pain, heavy and irregular periods, “sleepless nights on the bathroom floor” — that she had assumed were just her normal. It wasn’t until she was referred to a specialist that she learned she had endometriosis, a condition that often goes undetected in standard gynecological exams.
“I’ve been going to checkups with my gynecologist every year,” she wrote. “I thought if I had endometriosis I would have known about it by now, but as it turns out, endometriosis can’t be diagnosed with general examinations.” She underwent surgery, and said the procedure helped her feel like herself again — crediting Dylan as a constant source of support throughout her recovery.
“Dylan’s been extremely supportive,” she told E! News, “and helped me through the whole recovery process and everything.”
He made his feelings known publicly too. When Palvin walked in the 2025 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show — on what he revealed was a half-broken foot, just four weeks after her injury — Sprouse wore an endometriosis awareness pin on the pink carpet. “She was so strong to go through that herself,” he told E! News at the time.
She closed out her Instagram health post with a line that reads differently now: “I’m excited about this new chapter of my life and now ready to get back to work.”
Cole Sprouse Basically Called It
Dylan’s twin brother — and fellow former Disney star — Cole Sprouse saw this coming. In an April 2024 appearance on the Let’s Talk Off Camera With Kelly Ripa podcast, Cole told listeners he absolutely saw Dylan and Barbara taking the next step soon. “It’ll be nice because then my father will stop asking when I’m gonna do it,” he joked, before calling them a “wonderful” couple who were “perfect” for each other.
The pregnancy news also adds a new layer to a scary story from just last month: Palvin was pregnant during the couple’s home invasion in April, when Dylan reportedly fought off an intruder at their residence.
Now, with bébé Sprouse due sometime this summer, the couple that started with a DM and a six-month silence is about to become a family of three. And if their track record is any indication, they’ll do it exactly on their own terms.
