George Clooney rang in 65 the right way — sun, the south of France, and his wife by his side. The actor and his wife Amal Clooney were photographed stepping off a boat in St. Tropez on Thursday, May 7, the day after his birthday, smiling and walking arm-in-arm as they headed to lunch with friends along the French Riviera.

George officially turned 65 on Wednesday, May 6. Amal, 48, looked relaxed and happy beside him — the kind of easy, comfortable moment that comes from more than a decade together.

A Love Story That Started in 2013

The Clooneys have one of Hollywood’s more quietly enduring romances. They met in 2013 through a mutual friend, married in Venice, Italy, in September 2014, and made their official red carpet debut as a couple at the 2015 Golden Globes. They now share 8-year-old twins Alexander and Ella, and have been going strong for more than 11 years.

France has become the family’s primary home — and it’s now officially official. The entire Clooney family, including the twins, obtained French citizenship in December 2025, according to a naturalization decree published in the Journal officiel. George also owns an estate in England, his famous villa on Lake Como in Italy, and a property near his family back in Kentucky.

What George Said About Turning 65

Ahead of his birthday, Clooney got a little philosophical. He caught up with People at the 51st Chaplin Award gala in New York City on April 27, where he received a lifetime achievement award — a fitting moment for a man about to hit a milestone birthday.

When asked if he ever goes back and rewatches his old movies, he didn’t sugarcoat it.

“It’s a weird thing,” he said. “As you get older, it’s hard to watch movies when you were younger because you’re like, ‘Holy s—, that doesn’t even look like me anymore.’”

He did make one recent exception: Fantastic Mr. Fox, the 2009 Wes Anderson stop-motion film he voiced, which he watched with Alexander and Ella.

“That’s kind of fun because the kids are slowly figuring out what I do for a living, you know?” he said. “But the rest of it … Listen, it’s hard because I tend to not want to look back, but now that I’m gonna be 65 in a week, looking forward’s a lot shorter view, you know what I mean? So maybe I’ll look back later, you know?”

It’s the kind of self-aware, wry honesty that makes Clooney so watchable — on screen and off.

What’s Next for Clooney

At 65, he’s hardly slowing down. His most recent film role was playing the fictional movie star at the center of Jay Kelly in 2025. And Ocean’s 14 is officially in the works — a fourth entry in the heist franchise alongside Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, and Julia Roberts, with production set to begin filming in October, per Variety.

Before that, there’s a French project: Clooney will appear in Call My Agent (known in France as Dix Pour Cent), a spinoff film of the beloved French TV series starring Camille Cottin. That one hits screens on May 23.

Not bad for a guy who says he’s trying not to look back — he’s clearly got plenty to look forward to.
