Britney Spears Breaks Silence After Restaurant Drama
Britney Spears returned to Instagram with an F-bomb and a movie date after reports of a chaotic scene at a Sherman Oaks restaurant divided witnesses and her team.

- Britney Spears, 44, posted an Instagram Reel Friday heading to see The Devil Wears Prada 2 — her first social media appearance since restaurant drama erupted mid-week.
- Witnesses alleged she was barking, screaming, and walking around Blue Dog Tavern in Sherman Oaks holding a knife on Wednesday night.
- Her rep called the reports “completely blown out of proportion,” saying she was telling a story about her dog and cutting her hamburger.
- Entertainment journalist Jeff Sneider, who was dining nearby, went viral on X after posting about the “INSANE” experience in real time.
- The incident comes weeks after Spears completed rehab and accepted a “wet reckless” plea deal following her March DUI arrest.
Britney Spears had one response to a week of chaotic headlines: buttered popcorn and a Slurpee.
The pop icon, 44, returned to Instagram on Friday with a breezy Reel filmed inside her car, announcing she was on her way to catch The Devil Wears Prada 2 — the long-awaited sequel reuniting Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, and Emily Blunt. “What’s up world?” she opened, flashing a grin. “So I’m about to go see Devil Wears Prada 2. I personally prefer Chanel or Gucci, but yo, if the devil says Prada, I guess we should listen, right?”
Then came the moment that had her fans immediately sharing the clip: “Anyways, I came here for the buttered popcorn and the Slurpee. F**k yeah, Slurpees. Yes man, yes!”
Unbothered energy, fully intact.
The casual Friday outing — which also included a low-profile stop at Paw Works pet store in Thousand Oaks, where she was photographed in a brown trench coat and sunglasses, at one point ducking her face behind the coat before climbing into her black Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon — came just two days after a dinner at Blue Dog Tavern in Sherman Oaks turned into the week’s most-talked-about celebrity story.
What Witnesses Said Happened at Blue Dog Tavern
On Wednesday evening, Spears arrived at the Sherman Oaks restaurant with her assistant and bodyguard. What happened next depends entirely on who you ask.
Entertainment journalist Jeff Sneider was dining nearby when a woman walked in wearing sunglasses. He didn’t recognize her at first. “The woman sat down and proceeded to make a lot of woofing or barking noises and just throw a lot of outbursts,” Sneider told Page Six exclusively. “It wasn’t really until she took off her sunglasses that we realized, ‘Oh no, this is Britney Spears.’”
Sneider, a 20-year veteran of entertainment reporting, alleged that Spears “kept standing up and sitting down and moving around the restaurant” throughout the meal. At one point, he claimed, she stood up and may have “forgot to put down her silverware” — leaving her holding a knife. “I wasn’t threatened or anything like that,” he was careful to note. “But when she eventually left, I turned around and was like, ‘Holy s**t, that was crazy!’ to the entire section.”
He also alleged that one woman in their section felt directly alarmed, claiming Spears “had a knife and came toward me” and that she feared for her safety. Sneider said he didn’t believe Spears had any violent intention, but called her “definitely a nuisance to sit next to at dinner.” He added that her two companions “tried to coax her back into her seat” throughout the evening without much success — “she was obviously a handful.”
The details kept coming. Sneider alleged she lit a cigarette inside the restaurant and staff had to intervene to get it put out. By the end of the night, the table reportedly looked, in one eyewitness’s words, “like a toddler had been there” — food left on the table and underneath it, drinks untouched. She’d ordered a burger and fries but mostly picked at the fries. At one point, according to reports, she and her bodyguard fed each other fries and she was overheard saying “I love you.”
Sneider went viral on X that same night, posting in real time: “I am having dinner next to Britney Spears right now and it’s a WILD experience.” A follow-up post added: “She just left and everyone in the restaurant turned and started talking about it. An INSANE dining experience. One diner feared for her life. This is not a joke…”
Notably, Sneider said he did not witness Spears drink any alcohol during the dinner.
TMZ, which first broke the restaurant story Thursday morning, reported that witnesses described her as “raising her voice, screaming and even barking at times” in what sources called a “kind of sad” and “chaotic” scene. Surveillance footage obtained by the Daily Mail also showed Spears at a liquor store in Sherman Oaks with a friend earlier that same evening, before the restaurant visit.
Her Team’s Response Was Swift — and Pointed
Spears’ representative didn’t wait long to push back, and the statement landed with some force.
“This is completely blown out of proportion. Britney was enjoying a quiet dinner with her assistant and bodyguard. She was simply telling the story about how her dog was barking at the neighbors,” the rep said in a statement issued to multiple outlets. “At no point did she put anyone in danger with a knife. She was cutting her hamburger in half.”
Then came the part that resonated with longtime Britney supporters: “This constant attack on everything that she does and this is exactly what happened 20 years ago when the media tried to depict Britney as a bad person. This is ridiculous, and it needs to stop now.”
It’s a comparison that hits differently given the history. Spears spent 13 years under a court-ordered conservatorship that was terminated in late 2021, and her relationship with the press — paparazzi especially — has been notoriously fraught since the mid-2000s. Her team has long argued that ordinary moments in her life get filtered through a lens that wouldn’t apply to anyone else.
No official report of a threat or injury was filed in connection with the dinner.
The Bigger Picture: Rehab, a DUI Plea, and What Comes Next
Wednesday’s dinner was only Britney’s second public sighting since leaving a rehab facility she checked into on April 12 — a move that came after her March arrest in Ventura County, California, on suspicion of driving under the influence. Her sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James Federline — who moved to Hawaii with their father Kevin Federline in 2023 after a period of estrangement — reportedly encouraged her to seek treatment.
She was first spotted after rehab on April 30. A source close to her told Page Six at the time that Spears was “doing really well” and “excited to start afresh,” adding that “rehab was a great opportunity for her to ground herself.” A second source noted she was “continuing counseling remotely.”
On May 4, her attorney Michael Goldstein entered a guilty plea on her behalf — Spears was not present at the hearing — to a reduced “wet reckless” charge after prosecutors agreed to dismiss the DUI allegation. The deal is standard for first-time offenders with low blood alcohol levels and no crash or injuries. Goldstein said at the time that Spears “has accepted responsibility for her conduct” and that she had “taken significant steps to implement positive change.” She was sentenced to 12 months of probation, a fine, three months of alcohol school, and ongoing psychological and psychiatric treatment.
Now, a new source speaking to Rob Shuter’s Naughty But Nice Substack is painting a more anxious picture of the mood around her. “People around Britney are exhausted, scared, and running out of answers,” the insider said. “If this is how she behaves in public, imagine what happens behind closed doors.” A second source added: “The rehab bought everyone a little time, but it didn’t solve the deeper issues. She refuses to accept she needs more help, and that’s what terrifies people most.”
Her team has not responded to those claims.
What Britney herself offered the world on Friday was something far simpler: a car selfie, a fashion joke, and genuine excitement about a movie snack. “F**k yeah, Slurpees,” she said — and honestly, sometimes that’s enough of an answer.
