  • The news comes the same week Rodriguez celebrated daughter Ella’s high school graduation and upcoming move to UNC Chapel Hill.

Alex Rodriguez and Jaclyn Cordeiro have gone their separate ways. The former New York Yankees slugger and his fitness entrepreneur girlfriend have quietly ended their relationship after more than three years together, with Cordeiro breaking the news herself in a statement to TMZ on Thursday, May 21.

“To clarify, Alex and I are currently taking some time apart but there continues to be mutual love, care, and deep respect between us and for our families,” Cordeiro told TMZ. “We remain supportive of one another, and there is absolutely no animosity, drama, or negative story here.”

She didn’t stop there. Cordeiro also revealed she’s in the middle of something far more pressing than a breakup: “I’m also navigating a serious health matter involving a family member at this time, so my focus is understandably there. Alex and I continue to be very close, and out of respect for everyone involved — especially our daughters and loved ones — I’d kindly ask that any reporting reflects the compassion and privacy this situation deserves.”

A source close to Rodriguez confirmed to TMZ that the two have actually been apart for roughly two months, and that the split has been entirely amicable. Nothing but mutual respect, the insider said.

How It Started

Rodriguez and Cordeiro were first linked in October 2022, and by December of that year, A-Rod made it Instagram official in the most wholesome way possible — a Christmas photo that included his daughters Natasha and Ella alongside Cordeiro, captioned “From our hearts to yours, Merry Christmas.” They went fully public as a couple at an NBA game in January 2023.

From the start, Cordeiro wasn’t just a romantic partner — she was deeply woven into the fabric of Rodriguez’s family life. The founder of the JacFit fitness program, she’s a former nurse who helped Rodriguez lose over 30 pounds, and notably, she also helped his ex-wife Cynthia Scurtis get in shape through the same program.

Rodriguez spoke glowingly about Cordeiro to Us Weekly, saying she was “the only person that can come in to co-parent and make us both better.” He called her “very caring and proactive,” qualities he tied directly to her nursing background. “She’s used to taking care of people that are sick,” he said. “What I love about what she’s done in JacFit and the amount of people that she’s influenced — the reaction that I see from people to her — it’s really mind-blowing.”

He even had Cordeiro by his side when he moved daughter Natasha, now 21, into her college dorm. “Every time it was exactly the same,” he recalled to Us. “The parents were a mess. The father would go into the driver’s seat, the mom would give the hug to the young man or young woman, and every time it was like the mom crying and the child consoling. It was no different with me.”

A Bittersweet Week for A-Rod

The timing of Thursday’s news adds a particular layer to an already emotional week for Rodriguez. Just the night before, he posted a celebration of his younger daughter Ella’s high school graduation — a milestone moment that drew more than 35,000 likes on Instagram.

The photos showed Rodriguez and Ella embracing in front of UNC Chapel Hill balloons, with the full family gathered around them: Cynthia Scurtis, her husband Angel Nicolas, their daughter Camilla, and Natasha. Rodriguez also shared video from the graduation ceremony to his Stories. Ella, now 18, had been accepted to UNC Chapel Hill earlier this year — a school Rodriguez publicly called her “dream school” when he announced the news back in February, crediting Scurtis alongside himself for the milestone.

The warmth in those graduation photos — Rodriguez, his ex-wife, her husband, both daughters, all together — reflects a co-parenting dynamic the two have clearly put real work into since their 2008 divorce. Natasha attends the University of Michigan. Now Ella heads to Chapel Hill. A new chapter all around.

Rodriguez, who retired from baseball with 696 career home runs, a .295 batting average, and a 2009 World Series ring, turns 50 this year and has stayed busy with business ventures and media work since leaving the game. But this week — a relationship ending, a daughter leaving for college — is a different kind of transition.

For her part, Cordeiro made clear that whatever is next for her and Rodriguez, they’re facing it with grace. “There is absolutely no animosity, drama, or negative story here” — and given everything she’s personally navigating right now, that’s a line that deserves to be taken at face value.
