Kevin Bacon Got Swarmed by Bees on a Hike

Kevin Bacon got more than he bargained for on a recent family hike — and the bees, apparently, have opinions about his filmography.

The Footloose star, 67, shared a video to Instagram on Thursday recounting how a peaceful trail walk with his daughter Sosie Bacon and her partner Scoot McNairy turned into a full-on insect ambush. The bees, he explained with characteristic dry wit, showed zero interest in his companions. They came specifically for him.

\”So I went for a hike the other day with Sosie and Scoot,\” Kevin said in the clip. \”Scoot was in the front, Sosie was in the middle, and I was holding up the rear.\”

Scoot spotted a beehive off to the side of the trail and flagged it. Sosie passed the warning back to her dad. Kevin gave the hive a wide berth. None of it mattered.

\”So these bees, they must not have liked my work or something because they left the two of them alone, and they went full on after me,\” he joked. \”‘Let’s attack KB.’ Bees stinging me everywhere, including underneath my shirt.\”

The Reenactment That Made It All Worth It

Here’s where it gets good. Sosie — the Smile star who apparently inherited her parents’ comedic instincts — made the call not to film her father’s panicked scramble in real time. A gracious choice. But Kevin wasn’t about to let the moment die.

\”Now, it was very nice of my daughter to not take out her phone and start videoing this epic bee sting dance that I was doing,\” he said. \”But I asked her if there was any way that she could recreate it from memory.\”

She could.

Set to Hoku’s 2001 bop \”Perfect Day,\” Sosie’s reenactment is a masterpiece of physical comedy — arms flailing, hat swatting at invisible bees, sweater being ripped off in full dramatic panic. \”There’s bees in there,\” she announced before launching into the performance.

Kevin captioned the post simply: \”The bees attack KB by @sosiebacon.\”

Kyra Sedgwick, 60, arrived in the comments exactly as you’d hope. \”Sooooo gooood!\” the Closer actress wrote, laughing emojis and all. Sosie confirmed the accuracy of her interpretation: \”It was nothing more nothing less than that very dance.\”

A Family That Hikes Together — and Stars Together

The timing of the bee incident is almost too on-brand. Kevin and Kyra — who first met on the set of the TV movie Lemon Sky in 1987 and have been married for nearly 40 years — are about to release Family Movie, a comedy-horror project that marks the first time all four Bacons have appeared together in a feature film. Kevin and Kyra direct and star alongside their kids Sosie, 34, and Travis Bacon, 36.

The film, which premiered at SXSW earlier this year, follows the Smith family as they set out to make a low-budget horror movie — only to discover a real dead body on set. Chaotic energy, clearly, runs in the family.

\”The whole time we were shooting, we kept going, ‘God, this is just so great. This is so great,’\” Kevin told The Hollywood Reporter in March. \”When we were in prep and as soon as we were all four of us together on site, it was better than I could have imagined.\”

Given that Sosie can recreate a bee attack from memory with that level of commitment, the movie is probably going to be just fine.
